Whale Watching

One and half hours west and south from the Lawrencetown camping home base there are a few whale watching tour groups. The one we have enjoyed is Petite Passage - eponymous to the tiny gap in a an otherwise continuous peninsula separating Saint Mary's bay from the Bay of Fundy.

It was small and converted fishing boat we travelled on, and I had the epic experience of a large humpack going right under the ship. I was - as so often happens - standing back from the crowd on the port side and looking almost straight down the starboard side as the whale from the port side went what seemed to be just below the boat. The head and then body emerged from where I could see, an then just kept emerging as it was much much larger than it seemed from any other distance.

A fun day out on the water even if you don't see whales - and we understand it is common to see some humpbacks on each trip out.

Petite Passage Whales is located near Petite Passage near digby which is about 1.5 hours from the home base so could make for basically a full day trip If folks are interested in going as a group coordinated event the proposed date and time is 2026-07-15 at the 1:30 cruise.
